Magnums after Midnight!

We are in the departure lounge in Sao Luis, Brazil. It’s 2.45am, Ben and Zoe are playing cards and we’re eating Magnums!

At Salvador and Fortaleza, Ben’s football and rock aroused some suspicion and there were fears the football would be confiscated or cut open! Ben with his suspicious looking stash, maybe it looks like crack?

Will we still be this lively when we arrive in Belem at 5.15am?! I hope so as we have to head down to the docks, find our boat and load up then head off to buy hammocks and provisions for our 5 day journey. It’s highly recommended to stock up on snacks and aside from having some goodies for us, it would be nice to have some spare for the young kids who apparently perform death defying leaps from their canoes to the boat in order to peddle some local snack or other but apparently are so poor they are grateful for anything the crew or passengers give them. It’s going to be an interesting journey…

    Mo,

It’s been such a busy week with kids getting back to school that, despite my best intentions, I never responded to your email. I can’t imagine the trip in the speedboat in the ocean! Clancy would have been miserable! Thank God for the wet bag, right?

So here I lie, a compete insomniac at 2am, reading your blog, living vicariously and turning a bit green with envy! What is Belem? I can’t wait to find out in your next blog.

What a wonderful experience you are creating for your family. Justin is still talking about trying to make it happen for us next year! I’ll be curious to hear about how the schooling piece of the equation works.

Ok, off to try to sleep. Can’t wait to read your next installment!

With love from all the Beights,
    Colleen

Hi Colleen, Lovely to receive your comment and hear you’re enjoying the blog:) Belem is the city near the mouth of the Amazon from where we set sail on the Amazon Star – see next blog! Hope all good back at school… How is Sally enjoying it? Lara and Zoe have been snuggled in our cabin this morning keeping cool and doing some phonics activities on an app on my phone. Zoe is ‘teacher’ Ben and I sat in hammocks last night and did word puzzles…No way will we start any formal lessons on a boat journey like this, there’s way too much going on but seizing moments like this works well not to mention the real life education of the journey. Love to everyone, Mo xx

Hi Julia, Great to hear from you. Ahhh! school shoes! A distant memory:) New uniform too for you guys! Good luck! Although I must say Lara has been asking what her ‘world school’ uniform is going to be like and we’ve chosen a dress and flip flops which she wants to call her uniform!!! I suspect we will sometimes have formalities of getting ready for school which will get the girls in the mood. Not sure with Ben, works better to seize the moment whenever we can before he notices we’re actually doing Maths or English!! Mo x
