I tried to eat this chilli because I was trying to be brave and was very scared.

(we are back with better WiFi, expect more posts very soon, lots to tell, MMBZL)
I was walking out the door of our beach house when a most unusual creature dropped on my head. I brushed it off and then I very stupidly head butted the half opened door. I was a bit scared!
We took a close-up photo of the bug. More

We made it. The last 3 weeks have been truly manic but I’m sitting on flight BA249 to Rio with everything we need for a family gap year:
- My family
- Passports
- Several credit and cash cards
- A pin cushion of vaccinations
- A sense of adventure
Rest assured we have a few other bits and pieces in our rucksacks but these are conveniences as you don’t want to buy new socks or toothbrushes each day, you wouldn’t get much else done.

As we are just about to buy our tickets to fly out of South America via Easter Island this is pretty topical. There are a 1000 of these ‘moai’ on Easter Island, up to 30ft tall and weighing more than a few tonnes. Scientists now think they, as the Easter islanders believed, actually walked into position.
There is more info and photos on the Daily Mail and National Geographic. We might take a couple of pics when we are there as well if we can avoid the 50,000 other tourists that visit each year!

Another popular question about our family gap year is how are we going to carry all our stuff? Are we taking a lorry or four wheel drive overland? I am guessing that this is the sort of thing that people have in mind:

So whilst my lovely workaholic hubby was blogging away earlier tonight, I was getting our 3 children to bed! But oh, he of little faith! Who needs to wait till tomorrow? I successfully booked our first flight using Avios miles and Amex BA companion vouchers – yes, we actually found availability! Thank you BA and thank you Amex! We’re headed to Rio de Janeiro on 11th July 2012! YAY!!! More

A round the world ticket sounds like a great idea and is what every travel agent seems to suggest so are we sold on the idea?

With Oma baby sitting and Mo and I nursing mild hangovers we jumped on a train up to Olympia to visit the Adventure Travel Show a couple of weekends ago to do some research for our family gap year. Not sure what to expect but as usual nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I recognised quite a few of the speakers but the closest we got to any talks was standing next to Charley Boorman in the coffee area which was a shame as I would have found them pretty interesting (and Mo would have worried that I was after a bit too much adventure!). Nick Hewer of Apprentice fame was giving a talk More

This week I’ve been on two training courses – both courtesy of Living Social – one to learn about WordPress (web design & build, on which we’ve designed and built this blog site) and one an SLR photography course.
The WordPress course was my idea to help kickstart my involvement in Martin’s business and I knew whatever I learned would fall way short More
